Hey there 👋
Welcome to Honeycomb's upsell academy!
To help you feel at home, I want to reveal a few of our popular upsell recipes. Upselling is a uniquely effective marketing technique that encourages your customers to spend more money than they planned.
These 3 upsell recipes you can use in your store that are easy to prepare and exceptionally delicious! Choose your favorite and let’s get cooking.
Buy one, get one % off
Original purchase + another of the same product
If you sell products that require regular replenishing or products that your customers likely have large collections of, like socks - this is the recipe for you. Don’t let a buyer checkout with a single pair of socks before offering him another pair at a discounted price.
Niche stores and vertical stores
Original purchase + complementary product
Stores often make the mistake of trying to cross-sell by category, like offering a customer who is purchasing a chainsaw an additional power tool. Instead, our recipe calls for products that truly go hand-in-hand. Focus on what you already know your buyers want - a chainsaw - and cross-sell products they might use alongside it, like protective glasses.
Must have combinations
Single product stores
Original purchase + essential product
Last but not least, have a go at our simplest recipe of all! A must-have combination is a product plus the additional product it requires in order to fulfill its function. If a buyer is checking out of your store with their soon-to-be brand new coffee machine, now’s your chance to remind them they can’t make their morning coffee without some capsules.
* Start with 1 upsell offer per funnel.
* Design your upsell offers to match your brand.
* Keep it subtle. If your average order value is $40, don't try to upsell a product for $40. As a rule of thumb, customers are unlikely to increase their spending by more than 25%.
In my next post, I'm gonna reveal the most profitable way to increase your order value.
Until then - go get 'em chef!
